Electric Car Grant: Eligible Cars and Amounts

The Electric Car Grant is the UK-wide OZEV grant for a new car: £3,750 or £1,500 off an eligible electric car priced at or under £37,000, taken off by the dealer until 31 March 2030.

UK Electric Car Grant Amounts

The list puts each car into one of two bands, and the band sets the largest discount: up to £3,750 for the 20 Band 1 models, up to £1,500 for the 48 in Band 2.

Models That Qualify, by Manufacturer

Some manufacturers have cars in both bands, so the model decides the discount. Each version must still be priced at £37,000 or less.

How the Grant Is Applied by the Dealer

You do not apply for anything. When you buy an eligible car, the dealer reduces the price by the grant, so the discount appears on the deal before you sign.

A version qualifies only if it is priced at or under £37,000. A version that costs more does not get the grant, even if another version of that same car is listed.

Ask the dealer to list the grant as a line in the price. It should match the band the official list gives that car.

What the Electric Car Grant Does Not Cover

  • Used electric cars: the grant covers new cars only.
  • Any car costing more than £37,000.
  • Even electric cars are excluded if the government list does not include them.

Until 31 March 2030, the grant stays open. Every few months the list gains new models; our change log shows when.

Electric Car Grant Questions

Do I have to apply for the Electric Car Grant?

No. An eligible car gets the grant applied automatically by the dealer.

How long does the Electric Car Grant last?

The grant runs until 31 March 2030.

Can I claim a chargepoint grant as well as the Electric Car Grant?

Yes. The two grants are separate, with their own rules. If you own or rent a flat, or rent a house, and you have parking of your own, you may also get up to £500 off a home chargepoint.
